Research & Development

The research and development efforts of PIV Drives today are focussed on the fields of gearboxes and CVT. Especially in the field of mobile applications the development is at the beginning of a most promising success story.

Gearboxes
At the moment basic in depth investigations are ongoing regarding powerlosses, heat transfer,gear noise. In the various business fields industry sector specific power transmission solutions were developed based on the basic gearbox model POSIRED 2 (e. g. wheel drives, mixers and stirrers). In the field of plastic machinery new developments and modifications were tested and accepted by customers.

CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission)
The activities in the field of infinitely variable transmission are mainly focussed on the strategic objective to start with small series production of CVT-Units for agricultural vehicles. In the last years PIV Drives has developed CVT demonstration models, prototypes for series produktion as well as software for the drive-line-management. Thus our objective has excellent prospects to be realized.
Furthermore modern production processes and machineries have been tested intensively and found, in order to realize cost competitive production. Now a production and assembling plant is beeing projected and serves as basis for most precise cost estimates. For the industrial sector a new prototype of a generator gearbox has been developed and tested on our own and the customer’s testfield for the applications „power generation in a diesel locomotive“ and in a „block-type power plant.

Engineering

The engineering department of PIV Drives with its experienced engineers is specialized on the adaption of standard products to the specific and most various customer needs and to develop tailormade special purpose gears for almost each industry.

Worked out solutions exist for e. g.: rack and pinion drives, extruder drives, distributor-mechanisms for needle-felting machines, gear boxes for pump-distributing devices, hoisting gears, gear boxes for printing-mechanisms for offset-machines, shift - and variable speed drives for paper-cross-cutters, multiple shaft gearboxes for many-wave-mechanisms for rack-dryers, grate-drives for continuous roller-hearths, feed-mechanisms for straightening- and punching devices, gears for printing-machines, special drives for ring-rolling mills, different shifting gears.
